Haiti earthquake

 Donation Collection in Response to the Earthquake in Haiti

The Republic of Haiti was struck on January 12 (January 13 in Japan) by a large earthquake, bringing about terrible casualties and catastrophic damage to homes and residents.

In light of these circumstances, the Kyoto Prefectural International Center (President: Governor Keiji Yamada; Managing Director: Yasunori Nishijima), as part of its international cooperation activities, is calling for donations from prefectural residents in order to lend support to afflicted areas.

Your goodwill and cooperation are greatly appreciated. Details below.

Procedure

Donation collection will begin January 19 (Tues)

1. Donation boxes located in the Kyoto Station building (Shimogyo-ku)
<Locations>
*Kyoto Prefectural International Center – reception desk (Kyoto St., 9th floor)
*Kyoto Prefectural International Center – revenue stamp corner (Kyoto St., 8th floor)
*Kyoto Prefectural Passport Office – reception desk (Kyoto St., 8th floor)
2. Donation boxes located in Kyoto Prefectural Offices (main office and regional facilities)
<Locations>
*Main Office: International Affairs Division (Bldg. 1, 2nd floor), Prefectural Residents’ Consultation and Information Center (Bldg. 1, 1st floor)
*Regional Facilities: General Affairs Offices at all regional promotion bureaus, all prefectural tax offices, and all automobile taxation offices

For this transaction, the Bank of Kyoto has agreed to waive the processing fees for transfers made from their main office. Please inform a teller to have your fee waived.

Disaster details as of January 15

Time and Date: 16:53 January 12, 2010 (06:53 January 13, Japan time)
Location of epicenter: in the suburbs about 15 km from the capital city of Port-au-Prince
Damages: tens of thousands dead (accurate figures not yet available), 3 million affected (out of a population of 9.61 million)
