FM COCOLO Jan. 4 (English)
And now information and news from the Kyoto pref. gov’t.
Located on the ninth floor of the Kyoto Station Building, the Kyoto Pref. International Center offers multilingual counseling to parents of non-Japanese nationalities whose children attend Japanese schools. The counseling concerning students attending elementary and junior high schools whose first language is not Japanese provides guidance on education and school matters.
The counseling is for students who will start attending Japanese schools and parents who want to find out how Japanese schools differ from those in their home countries. Anyone attending Japanese schools and persons with questions or concerns about them is welcome to call. Operators answer questions in easy to understand Japanese about the Japanese educational system and curriculum, enrollment procedures, annual school events and rules. Translators are also available. Access the Kyoto Pref. International Center web site for details. Or call the center on 075-342-5000 (x2).
The noro virus, a cause of food poisoning, is prevalent in Japan in the winter and early spring. It is especially apt to spread among many persons at nursing homes, day care health centers and kindergartens. The noro virus is contracted not only by infected food, but through contact with the feces and vomit of infected persons, too.
Here’s how to avoid contact with the noro virus. Wash your hands often whenever handling or cooking food, disinfect all towels and cooking utensils thoroughly, cook food so its center reaches 85 degrees Celsius for at least one minute and strictly maintain sanitary conditions. Please be especially careful at facilities frequented by elderly persons.
Furthermore, many persons continue to get food poisoning by eating blowfish prepared by non-professional chefs. Blowfish prepared by amateurs is extremely dangerous. Only eat blowfish that has been prepared by professional chefs in possession of a special license. Get more info by calling the Kyoto Pref. Environmental Health Division on 075-414-4773 (x2).
That’s it for this week’s info from the Kyoto pref. gov’t.
