Procedure for Changing Driver License Information

Anyone who has changed his/her address, nationality or name should apply for changing driver license information.

Place of application and registration times

At the Kyoto Prefectural Police Driver's License Examination Center, Main Building 2F, Window 8

• Registration times 
  8:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
  Monday to Friday （Except public holidays, Year-end and New Year holidays）

At the Kyoto Driver's License Renewal Center,Window B

•  Registration times
  9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  Monday to Friday (Except public holidays, Year-end and New Year holidays） 

Officially, this should be done at the police station responsible for the area where you live, but you may go to any police station nearby within Kyoto Prefecture.

• Police Stations, including Maizuru Police Station East Branch Office
• Application is not accepted at police boxes(excluding Keihoku, Amino and Kumihama Police Boxes).
• Registration times 
  9:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
  Monday to Friday （Except public holidays, Year-end and New Year holidays） 

Necessary documents

If only changing address

• Driver license
• Certificate of Residence  (Photocopies are not allowed, the documents which were issued within the past 6 months are needed.)
   ※ Please bring Certificates of residence for all of your family members without removing staples.
   ※ Persons who have foreign nationality need to bring a certificate of residence which is printed the status of residence and the term of residence. If the status of residence and the term of residence are not printed on your certificate of residence, bring your residence card with them. 
• If your Certificate of Residence is not available, any of following documents that verify your new address and name
  • Your health insurance card
  • Stamped postal mail(forwarded mail is not allowed)
  •  Public utility receipts, e.g., for electricity, gas, water(invoices without receipts are not allowed)

should be brought.
※ For persons who have foreign nationality. If you can't prepare the certificate of residence, please bring the residence card or the special permanent resident certificate.
※ Persons who aren't applied on Residential Basic Book Act need to inquire to the Kyoto Prefectural Police Driver's License Examination Center.

 Note

• Documents must accurately show your complete address, including name of apartment and room number. Omitted address is not allowed.
• No photocopies are not allowed.

To change your nationality,etc. and/or name

• Driver License
• Certificate of Residence which is printed your legal domicile.(Photocopies are not allowed, the documents which were issued within the past 6 months are needed.)
• You will need a certificate of residence stating your nationality, visa status and period of visa, in case of change of name or nationality.For proxy, please bring ID card.
• Persons who aren't applied on Residential Basic Book Act need to inquire to the Kyoto Prefectural Police Driver's License Examination Center.
