Endangered fungi in Kyoto Prefecture

Fungi found in Kyoto Prefecture fall into 1349 species from 109 families and 28 orders, of which three extinct, 31 critically endangered, seven endangered, 27 vulnerable, and 27 near threatened & least concern species are listed in the Kyoto Prefecture Red Data Book. Of the species observed in the prefecture, threatened species account for 7%.

The fruiting body of this species resembles a bat. This species is 5 to 18 cm in length and occurs mostly in thickets with abundant humus soils.

Outline
The fruiting body of this species has a dark green cap, which is covered with a foul-smelling slimy gleba. If the gleba is washed off, a raised yellow reticulation appears.

This species has a cap covered with dark green gleba. The lacy indusium is yellow or light yellow in color and reaches nearly to the ground, with an eye-catching graceful form.

Outline
The starfish stinkhorn has a cup-like structure topping the stalk of its fruiting body. The cup has 8 to 15 white arms, like elongated cones, extending radially and horizontally from its periphery. This species is foul-smelling.

This species has 18 to 24 red arms projecting from its dehiscing top and spreading radially and horizontally. It bears strongly foul-smelling dark brown gleba on its central table.
