Takumi no Yakata(Green Tea tearoom)

takuminoyakataEnjoy learning about the best way to pour and drink tea, while talking about tea and taking in the beautiful surroundings of the Uji River, in this Tea Classroom. The tea instructors will patiently explain and teach to you the best way to prepare and pour tea. Cafe service is also available (closed on Wednesdays and for New Year Holiday period).

Sankyuan Uji Tea Laboratory

sankyuanHere there are various objects on display, such as letters, tea pots, travel boxes, tea utensils, and Uji millstones of various regional daimyo warlords, which have been passed down by the family of Kanbayashi Sannyu, a teacher of the tea ceremony in the early Edo Period (1603-1868), who served tea to the Shogunate and many daimyo warlords. Furthermore, you can experience and learn how to grind your own high-quality maccha tea with a grindstone and serve it in the tea ceremony classroom.

As well as making tea and tea utensils in the workshop, you can enjoy tea ceremony in the famous tea room, tea-flavouring and cuisine, as well as purchase unique and original tea and tea utensils in the shop.

Marukyu-Koyamaen(Plant tours)

After watching a video about maccha tea (English version available), learn about tea in the workshop. Afterwards, sample some fresh maccha tea. You can also try serving tea yourself.

Gyokuro tea-making experience (Fugen-ji Temple Fureai-no-Eki)

tea-making_experienceLearn how to make the highest quality Gyokuro tea from the famous Yamashita Toshikazu and his students. Try your hand at making your own top quality Gyokuro tea from fresh tea. You can take home what you make, as well as try some top quality Gyokuro tea and learn about the serving methods from instructors.

Tea-making and chakabuki experience(Ujitawara Town)

Experience various types of tea culture in Ujitawara Town, such as tea-making, grinding, taste-guessing (chakabuki), learn about the best way to serve tea, and enjoy bento produced with local ingredients.
