Ishibotoke(Stone Buddhist Images)

This is a 2.3-kilometer-long hiking course from Gansenji Temple to Joruriji Temple.

The pastoral landscape of Kamo can be enjoyed for roughly one hour while viewing objects such as the many stone Buddhist images of Tono and the Buddhist images carved on cliffs.

The stone Buddhist images that have been exposed to wind and rain for ages benevolently watch over travelers, local people, etc. who come to visit with their unique expressions.

An aspect of the Pure Land Buddhism faith in Japan can be seen as the seated statue of Amida Nyorai, which is an important cultural asset, can be observed with objects such as a three-storied pagoda at Gansenji Temple, and the nine Amida Nyorai statues, which are national treasures, can be observed with objects such as the Kichijo Tennyo statue at Joruriji Temple.

There is also a separate hiking course of about ten kilometers which starts at JR Kamo Station and includes stops at locations such as Goryo Shrine, boat houses, and Kaijusenji Temple, where a five-storied pagoda, which is a national treasure, is located.

(Insert information only as an option if there is space.)

(About one hour from Kyoto Station to JR Kamo Station by the JR Nara Line or Kansai Honsen Line.)

(About thirty minutes from JR or Kintetsu Nara Station to Joruriji Temple by bus.)
