Mounted Archery Festival
This ancient festival is held as the first ceremony before Aoi Matsuri. Mounted archers dressed as military officers in ancient ceremonial court costumes (bukansokutai sugata) shoot arrows at three hollyhock leaf (aoi) targets as they gallop on their horses.
