Traditional events (Kyoto city)

The Kumogahata Torch-throwing Festival is held in two places: Kumogahata-demachi and Naka-cho. Unlike the torch-throwing festivals of Hanase and Hirokawara, a tower about 4 meters high on all sides is erected, torches are placed there to form a Chinese character, and the torches are lit. Each year a different character is used, and is kept secret until lit.
