Kuta no Hanagasa Odori (Kuta Flowered Hat Dance)

Kuta no Hanagasa Odori (Kuta Flowered Hat Dance)

This Buddhist dance is dedicated to he guardian deity of Kuta, Sakyo-ku, who is enshrined at Shikobuchi - jinja Shrine. This is one of the elegant dances which date back to the Muromachi Period. In the evening more than ten young men wearing flowered hats chant Buddhist-prayers and dance to the rhythm of drums and bells while waving their flowered hats. This dance has been designated as an important intangible folk cultural asset. Work on artificial flowers can be seen throughout the town between the 16th and the 23rd.
