Yagi-cho Fireworks and Lantern Festival

This fireworks festival began after the war in 1947 as a kind of dream for people living in extreme poverty because of Japan's defeat. About 1,000 lanterns are floated on the surface of the river and a gorgeous fireworks display lights up the sky. This festival attracts many people, including people from Kyoto, Osaka and Kobe, and people returning home for the Obon holiday.
