Information on tipping

Since there is no custom of tipping in Japan, people will often refuse tips. Since the people of Kyoto place more importance in the spiritual aspect of things, most prefer a smile and a "thank you" instead of a tip.

    Some Pointers
  • If you leave a tip, people might think that you have forgotten or lost your money.
  • When Japanese people say the word "service," they mean "free of charge." If someone says to you "This is a service," you don't need to tip them. It is best to simply reply with a polite "thank you."
