Sanjukkoku - bune (Japanese Narrowboat)

Sanjukkoku - bune is a boat that developed as a water-based means of transport to connect Osaka and Kyoto during the Edo Period. It was a long thin barge style boat with a capacity of 28 people. As a means of transportation the use of Sanjukkoku - bune has ceased, however as a refined way of pleasantly enjoying the river recent times have seen a revival in the use of the Sanjukkoku - bune. If you book a group of 10 or more they will take a boat out for you, and so whilst the breeze off of the Fushimi river blows, why not enjoy dinner aboard the boat? Distinctly different from cruiser or yachts, these Japanese boats have a uniquely Japanese flavour. Bookings must be made in Japanese..
