Kinone-michi (Tree Root Path) (Approach to Kurama - ji Temple)

Once you have scaled the peak of Mt.Kurama, you'll find yourself on the Kinone-michi, the name for the road to the Kibune Shrine, which leads from Kurama Temple through to the Okunoin(Inner Temple). At that time when Minamoto no Yoshitsune was still a young man named Ushiwakamaru, he was being taught by his master to leap tengu goblins on the Kinone-michi. The bedrock here is solid any roots, or ne, that gained a foothold here were impossible to pull out of the ground. The old and large trees create a dense canopy which means that even in daytime the road is dark enough for mountain climbers and particularly women climbing the path alone to be warned about the lack of visibility.
