Shokado' Shisekiteien (Park of Historical Interest)

This thatched tea house built by the calligraphy and tea ceremony adept Shoka Shojo, who was training as a Buddhist monk at the beginning of the Edo period, was moved here and restored in the Meiji Period. In this 22,000m2 garden the beauty of all four seasons can be seen. The teahouse and a 'Suikinkutsu' (water harp chamber Japanese garden feature) top off this charming scene. In the museum works by Shojo Yukari are exhibited. At Shokadou you can also enjoy an original Japanese boxed lunch (Shokado Bento) served from a caddy tray used by Shoka himself. (Booking Required)
