Kiyamachi

This street was created at the beginning of the Edo Period with the excavation of Takasegawa Canal. It was used to transport large quantities of goods from the provinces, including firewood, coal and lumber. It was so named ("Kiyamachi" literally means "town of wood dealers") for the stores along this route. The street along the Takasegawa is adorned with cherry blossoms in the spring.
