Teramachi-dori (literally, Temple Town Street) was so named because of the concentration of temples on this street resulting from the city remodeling policy of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Some of those temples still remain, if only a small number. More prevalent is the shopping district south of Shijo-dori, which is lined with electric appliance stores.
