Okonomiyaki

Cabbage, bits of fried batter, eggs and red pickled ginger are mixed with a wheat flour mixture and baked on a hotplate.  The result resembles something like pizza.  The ingredients you can add to the mix are listed on the menu. Okonomiyaki sauce, nori (dried seaweed), and bonito flakes can be added to your liking.  Okonomiyaki can be eaten in restaurants specializing in the dish or at izakaya.

Examples of Okonomiyaki

Ebi-tama: With small shrimps added

Buta-tama: With thin slices of pork added.

Negi-yaki: With spring onions added to the wheat flour mix. Eaten with soy sauce seasoning

Modan-yaki: yakisoba (noodle) without sauce seasoning is added.

Mikkusu-yaki: A mix of most of the options on the menu.
