Udon and Soba
While ramen is a Chinese noodle, udon and soba are noodles that originated in Japan. Udon are thick noodles made from wheat flour, while soba are thin noodles made from buckwheat. They are served with a bonito flavored soup in a bowl. If you like noodles that are served cold, you can have them on a wooden steaming basket served with a separate dipping soup. Udon and soba can be enjoyed either at a restaurant specializing in noodles or at shokudo.
