Kayabuki Concert Hall (in Thatched House)

The world-renowned piano duo, Ernst and Kazuko Seila call themselves 'Tanboists', 'Tanbo' being the Japanese for rice paddy, on account of their own rice growing in Goma. The two, who say they derive their musical inspiration from their love of nature, have created this musical space - Kayabuki Concert Hall. It is made from the main hall of a two-hundred year old Zen Temple moved from the Oi district of Fukui Prefecture, and can accommodate around 250 people in its auditorium of over 2000 square feet. Every year around 6000 visitors come to enjoy their regular concerts held at the beginning of Summer and in Autumn. The guests are seated in Japanese style on cushions on the tatami mat floor. Applications should be made including a self-addressed postcard to Kayabuki Concert Hall, PO Box 24, Kita Yubinkyoku, Kyoto City, 603-8691 JAPAN
