Doshisha University

In 1875, Jo Niijima, impressed by the strict lifestyle of Puritans during his 8-year stay in the United States, and believing that people should be awakened by the spirit of the United States, established the Doshisha Eigakko(Doshisha Academy) based on Christian beliefs. That school became Doshisha University, which is located in the Karasuma Imadegawa district of Kyoto. Doshisha University is highly acclaimed, not only in Kyoto but as a leading private university in Japan.
