Anao - ji Temple
Anaoji Temple is the 21st of the 33 locations on
the Saigoku pilgrimage. The main image is a Seikannon, which is also called Migawari
Kanzeion and Yakizu-no-Kanzeon. There is a mysterious legend behind this image,
but it was stolen and is now missing. In the main hall is a life-size Shaka Nehan
statue that is believed to cure illnesses. Many people come to worship this statue.
It is said that your illness will be cured if you pray while rubbing the part
of the Nehan statue that corresponds to the ailment on your own body. In the
precincts is one of the famous Tamba Gardens said to be from the end of the Muromachi
Period.
