Kodai - ji Temple

This temple was built by Kita-no-Mandokoro, the wife of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, for her husband's funeral. Since Tokugawa Ieyasu spared no expense in assisting with its construction, it was a grand temple during its early years. All that is left of the original temple are Kaizando Hall, the front gate, Kangetsudai, the mausoleum enshrining Hideyoshi and Kita-no-Mandokoro, Kasatei, Shiguretei (tea ceremony rooms designed by Rikyu and moved from Fushimi Castle) - all of which are designated by the national government as Important Cultural Properties.
