Kumanonyakuouji - jinja Shrine
This is one of the Three Kumano Shrines of Kyoto, where Emperor Shirakawa had Yuyagongen enshrined as the guardian deity of Zenrin - ji Temple 1160. In ancient times the sacred nagi tree was used to make "purification charms" to cleanse people of their sins when visiting Kishu Kumano and Ise Shrines. The charms made from the leaves of the nagi tree are known for their powers to overcome all hardships. The surrounding cherry blossoms are wonderful. It is said that Shogun Ashikaga Takuji of the Muromachi Shogunate often held banquets here.
