Saguri - jinja Shrine

Located at Sayama koaza Saguri, this shrine is listed in the "Engishiki Book of Deity Names," and is believed to enshrine the deity Saguri mentioned in the January 27, 859, entry of the "Sandai Historical Records." Since the Middle Ages, this shrine has been called "Atemoto," because it enshrines a part of the deity of Iwashimizu Hachiman-gu Shrine. The main shrine, built in 1494, is designated by the national government as an Important Cultural Property. The giant camphor tree located on the west side of the sanctuary at this shrine is 30 meters high and 5.35 meters wide at the trunk. It is carefully preserved as a sacred tree.
