Sanzen - in Temple

Located in Ohara-no-Sato in the northeastern outskirts of Kyoto is the solemn Sanzen - in Temple, founded by the priest Saicho. Within the precincts is the thatched Ojo-Gokuraku-in, which enshrines the amida Sanzon (Amida trinity statues). Fresh velvet-like moss covers the garden, emitting a refreshing fragrance. Spreading out in the natural forest behind the temple is an expansive hydrangea garden, where some 3,000 hydrangea bloom during the rainy season.
