Care service during child/guardian illness

1. Day Service

In the event there is need for care of a sick (fever, etc.) or post-illness (measles, etc.) child and the guardian must leave to go to work, etc., temporary child-care services are provided at hospitals, healthcare clinics, and daycares.

2. Short-term care support

(1) Short-term care

When guardians have short-term difficulties in bringing up their children due to illness, accident, nursing, ceremonial occasions, etc., children can be looked after at these facilities for a maximum of 7 days.

(2) Twilight Care

If guardians are not at home during weekday nights because of their job, etc, or if guardians are not home during holidays and as a result have difficulty in bringing up their children, they can be looked after and fed at these facilities.

2. Kyoto Prefectural Gender Equality Center

Kyoto Prefectural Gender Equality Center is a facility to support a society in which men and women participate equally. It is available for consultation and information about women’s challenges as well as training, study, and the opportunity to interact with organizations and groups.

3. Nursery school

When guardians cannot look after children in the daytime because of their work or illness, children can be looked after in nursery school.

For 0 to 5 year-old children (pre-elementary school)
Generally open Monday to Saturday, 7:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.
(Some are open after 6:00 P.M.)
Fees are set by the city, town or village and vary depending on income.

4. Child Nursing Institution

Children without a guardian and children whose guardian cannot raise them are looked after in Child Nursing Institutions until 18 years of age.
The cost depends on the income of the guardians.

5. Local Child Care Support

Child care consultation by professionals (free of charge) is available at the nursery schools provided by cities, towns and villages.
Child care activities, lecture meetings, and discussion meetings are also held.
