大野ダム公園　Ohno Dam Park

  

　自然は、私たちに恵みを与える一方、時として災害を引き起こします。自然の厳しさに、人々が働きかけて生まれた山の姿が、この大野ダム周辺の景観です。丹波高地から日本海へと注ぐ由良川に設置された大野ダムは、下流域の人々の暮らしを守るために不可欠な存在です。100年に1度の被害と言われる昭和28年の台風13号の水害を受け、昭和36（1961）年に建設されました。京都丹波高原国定公園では、北西の入り口にあたります。

　ダム湖周辺には、散策・運動・魚釣りなどを楽しむ人々が訪れます。桜や紅葉の名所としても知られ、「さくら祭り」「もみじ祭り」は、盛大に賑わいます。四季を通して、人々の営みから生まれた自然の姿として親しまれているのです。

  The Ohno Dam on the Yura River marks the northwestern entrance of the Kyoto Tamba Kogen, which encompasses much of the upstream Yura watershed. The present dam was built in 1961, replacing a smaller one (now submerged) located a short distance to the east, after a devastating flood caused by a seasonal typhoon. Japan's mountainous terrain and subtropical Monsoon climate meke it vulnerable to heavy rains and flooding nearly every year. While mountain communities are at most acute risk, the densely settled areas downstream also depend upon sophisticated management of such watersheds.

  The resulting landscape is both natural and human-made, ant its reservoir lake is familiar to people of the area who come to enjoy walking the trails, fish,and enjoy the outdoors. The area is especially festive in spring and fall when the sakura (cherry blossom) and momiji (colored maple trees) are in full color, as well as in summer when its cool waters bring relief from the city's heat.
