RESERVATION FOR TAKING WRITTEN EXAMINATION

Online Reservation

Please reserve your examination date and time from our website "Online reservation for license renewal and written examination".  Reservation can be made one month prior to the date of examination.

License, Category 1 and License, Category 2

• License, Category 1
  applies to large, medium and semi medium-size vehicles, ordinary vehicles, large special vehicles, towing vehicles, and large and ordinary motorbikes. 
• License, Category 2
  includes large and medium-size vehicles, ordinary vehicles, large special vehicles and towing vehicles.

Application days/times

Reserved date from Monday to Friday (except national and year-end/new-year holidays).

• For those who take the first session : from 08:30 AM to 08:50 AM 
• For those who take the second session : from 08:50 AM to 09:15 AM
• For those who take the third session : from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM 
  (moped license)

In case a large number of examinees is expected, application time may be changed.

NOTE: If document checking and aptitude test is not completed within this time period, you will not be able to sit for the exam.

The written examinations will be taken after the application procedure is completed.

Necessary documents

• Driver license, if you already have one
• If you don't have a driver license,
  • you will need your Certificate of Residence (Certificate must be issued within 6 months. Photocopies are not allowed)
    ※Address on the family register must be written in the Certificate. 
    ※Foreign residents are required to bring certificate of residence on which nationality, visa status and length of stay are written. Certificate is not acceptable if period of stay is expired.
    ※Certificate is not acceptable in principle, if identification number is written.
  • Necessary Documents 
    Documents to identify yourself, such as health insurance card, mynumber card, passport, student ID.  Notification card accompanying mynumber card is not acceptable, in principle.
• If you have attended a driver re-education class after having your driver license revoked, you need to bring the certificate proving that you completed the class.
• One photo (3×2.4 cm (H×W), front-view of upper body (chest up), without a hat, plain background, taken not more than 6 months ago.) If you take for a temporary license exam, you need two photos.
• To those who wish to take exam for large-size, medium-size vehicle or Category 2 license, you are asked to bring Certificate of Driver's License showing your license records(license records include ordinary vehicles ones which were obtained in the past).

• Family seal (unregistered seal is OK)
• If you have graduated from an authorized driver training school you need to bring the certificate of graduation. Also, please bring your temporary license with you.
• If you are taking for a driving test for an ordinary license, you need to bring your:
  • Road training report (Report must be written with the record of road training for 5 days or more within 3 months from the application.)
  • Temporary license

Moped license and small special vehicle license (exam application days/times, necessary documents, etc.)

Moped course

If you are taking the moped license examination, you need to take the moped course in addition to the written examination. (If you have taken a driver re-education class after your license was revoked, you do not need to take this course.)

Exam application days/times

• Please come to the examination site between 1:00 PM and 1:30 PM on your reserved date.
• The written examinations will be taken after the application procedure is completed.

Necessary documents

• Driver license, if you already have one
• If you don't have a driver license,
  • Certificate of Residence(Certificate must be issued within 6 months. Photocopies are not allowed)
    ※Address on the family register must be written in the Certificate.
    ※Foreign residents are required to bring certificate of residence on which nationality, visa status and length of stay are written. Those foreign residents who don't fall under the Basic Resident Registration law are kindly asked to make an inquiry to the Driver's License Examination Center.
     ※Certificate is not acceptable in principle, if identification number is written.
  • Necessary documents 
    Documents to identify yourself, such as health insurance card, mynumber card, passport, basic residence register card, student ID. Notification card accompanying mynumber card is not acceptable, in principle.
• Certificate of moped course completion
• If you have taken a driver re-education class after having your driver license revoked, you need to bring the certificate proving that you completed the class. 
  ※If you have your license revoked without getting document regarding revocation, you need to take a driver re-education class in applying for your license.
• One photo (3×2.4 cm (H×W), front-view of upper body (chest up), without a hat, plain background, taken not more than 6 months ago.
• Family seal (unregistered seal is OK)

Receive necessary documents for examination, such as examination slip and application form (Counter #1) --＞ Fill out documents --＞ Documents are checked (Counter #2) --＞ Buy revenue stamps (Counter #2B) --＞ Aptitude test (Counters #3) --＞ Issuance of exam no. (Counter #4) --＞ Take exam

Other points

• Exams can only be taken once on any day.
• Exams for mopeds and small special vehicles can be taken at Kizu police station and all police stations in and north of Kameoka. For details about exam days/times, please contact the police station where you wish to take the exam.
• Written license examinations for vehicles other than mopeds and small special vehicles can also be taken in the northern part of Kyoto prefecture. For details, please refer to information on examinations held at places other than the Driver License Examination Center.
• Written examination questions are also available in languages other than Japanese:
• License, category 1... English, Chinese(Mandarin), Tagalog
• Moped license...English
• Temporary license...English, Chinese(Mandarin), Tagalog

If you wish to take the examination in one of any foreign languages, please request this when you get your examination number issued (or at the time of application in the case of the examination held at a place other than the Driver License Examination Center).

We rent stationery(pencil, eraser, etc.)at the testing center.
