Letter of thanks to Mr. Bill Gates（ビル・ゲイツ氏へのお礼の手紙）

Dear Mr. Bill Gates,

In the Kyoto Botanical Gardens, a place of rest and relaxation for many residents of the prefecture, our Little Free Library is located inside the aptly named outdoors Kinoko “Mushroom” Library." It’s here that we found five books with your message describing them as the best you’ve read in your life, alongside the small elf doll that you left.

On behalf of the people of Kyoto, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to you. We were further astonished to read on your blog that Kyoto is one of your top 100 places in the world, along with being the only place in Japan to make that list.

If at all possible, we would be overjoyed to meet with you in person to express our gratitude more appropriately and perhaps to hear directly from you why you chose Kyoto, and moreover, our Botanical Garden, amongst all the places in Japan.

In addition, the many charitable projects that you are carrying out are all tackling deeply important issues currently being promoted within our own prefectural administration, and we would also be very much interested in the possibility of exchanging views on these matters.

Please do come to Kyoto once more, and I look forward to hopefully meeting with you sometime in the future. Thank you very much.

我々京都府民の憩いの場となっている京都府立植物園のリトルフリーライブラリーである「きのこ文庫」の中に、あなたのメッセージが貼られた人生で読んだ最高の本5冊とともに、エルフのぬいぐるみを発見いたしました。

京都府民を代表して心からの感謝を申し上げます。また、貴殿のブログでは世界中で100箇所、そして、日本では京都のみであるとの記載があり、我々としても驚きを隠しえません。

叶うものでございましたら、直接お目にかかり、謝意を申し上げますとともに、どのような理由で、日本の中で京都を、さらには、京都の中で私たちの府立植物園を選んでいただいたのか、その想いを直接お聞かせいただければと存じます。

また、貴殿が進められている数々の慈善事業は、我々の府政推進においても、非常に重要な課題に対するものばかりです。そのような面でもぜひ意見交換ができればと考えております。
