Procedure for Changing Driver License Information

Place of application and registration times

Kyoto Prefectural Police Driver License Examination Center

Anyone who is resident in Kyoto prefecture can perform this procedure here.

Registration times

8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Monday to Friday (except public holidays and the New Year holiday period)

Officially, this should be done at the police station responsible for the area where you live, but it can also be done at your nearest police station.

Necessary documents

To change your family registration address (nationality), address, or name

To change the family registration address (or nationality), address, or name on your license you need to attach an extract of the certificate of residence showing your family registration address, or present your foreign registration card (in the case of foreigners).

When changing family registration address (or nationality) or name

• Driver license
• Certificate of residence showing your family registration address, or foreign registration card (in the case of foreigners).

If only changing address

• Driver license
• Documents that verify your new address
  • An extract of your certificate of residence (photocopies are not allowed), or foreign registration card (in the case of foreigners)
  • Your health insurance card
  • Public utility receipts, e.g., for electricity, gas, water, telephone
  • Stamped postal mail (forwarded mail is not allowed)

  Note that documents must accurately show your address and name (real name).

Fee

Free of charge

When changing the information on your license, the updated information is simply printed on the back of your license. A new license is not created, so no fee is charged for this service.
